Anyone who has experienced exposure to the elements – hot, windy or cold – knows that the first thing one seeks is some type of shelter.
Shelter provides a micro-climate that allows us to protect ourselves and our gear from rain, wind, cold and heat. It also discourages forest critters from getting intimate with us.
So, you are proficient with building the debris hut during the Fundamental Wilderness Skills course — here, students learn several methods of creating their sanctuary only with the natural materials found in nature. From the simple lean-to, to the raised platform, to the use of fire and more, students experience what it takes to stay warm and dry when they spend an evening in their new shelter. Fee includes breakfast.
